David Briggs

David Briggs is a graduate of Muskingum Univ. majoring in Theatre and Speech Communication. he attended grad school Pittsburg, KS to study Organizational Com. and at UNCG in Theatre Management.

In 1993, he pursued a career in the arts teaching at Wilkes Community College while working to open the J.A. Walker Com. Center as the first Production Manager. While there David developed the AFA in Tech Theatre curriculum for the Community Colleges system, and he taught, directed, designed and produced 18 shows.

After 3 years at WCC he left for management and teaching opportunities at Lenoir-Rhyne Univ, Hickory, NC. he spent from 1986-1993 serving as the Director of Auditoriums, T.D. and instructor in Theatre.

In 1993 David was named Director of the Broyhill Civic Center at Caldwell Community College. and oversaw the opening of the building, developed programs, contracts, handled marketing, rentals, and 3 budgets. He served as Board Chair for Foothills Performing Arts, and Caldwell Arts Council. David also served on the board for North Carolina Theatre Conference for one year and North Carolina Presenters Consortium for 7 years.

In November 2006 Mr. Briggs was selected to become the Executive Director and President of Shaw Center for the Arts, LLC in Baton Rouge, LA. where he served until 2011 when he accepted the position of Director of High Point Theatre in High Point, NC where he has increased the visibility and regional reach of the venue.

David also has a venue management/consultation business (Dave’s Arts Management Network) which assists performance venues and agencies with building plans and understanding the realities of opening performing arts and conference facilities in rural and semi-rural areas.

David has mentored and worked with a wide variety of non-profit agencies, presenters, meeting coordinators. and has expertise in developing business and marketing plans for new organizations and venues. Mr. Briggs has presented a wide variety of national and international artists, Broadway, Bluegrass, Jazz, Classical, Dance, etc.
