Chip Haas
Chip Haas is the Production Manager / Technical Director for the School of Theatre at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In his 17 years at UNCG, he has taught classes in stagecraft, technical production, CAD, technical direction, stage automation, and rigging. Additional responsibilities include mentoring BFA Technical Direction students and serving as the primary academic advisor for the BFA in Design & Technology and the BFA in Technical Production programs.
Chip has over 25 years of teaching experience, serving on the faculty at the University of South Carolina-Aiken, Lenoir-Rhyne College and Ball State University prior to UNCG. He has been the technical director for over 150 productions in his career as well as being a scene designer and lighting designer for numerous productions.
In addition to UNCG, he also works professionally with Imagine Design and Production as a rigger, electrician, audio engineer, and deck carpenter. Chip is also a proud Journeyman with IATSE Local 635. Previously, he has worked with the Berkshire Theatre Festival, Clinton Area Showboat Theatre, Omni Productions, McLeod Summer Theatre and a wide variety of concert and crew calls throughout the years.
Chip holds a MFA in Technical Production from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and a BA in Theatre from Lenoir-Rhyne College.
Chip is actively involved with the United States Institute of Theatre Technology and with USITT-SE Section, serving as the Vice-Chair of Relations for six years and as Section Chair for six years.
